Created by Simon Birch, 14th factory, located in the outskirts of DTLA, has the perfect mix of video, installation, paintings, and eerie sets to amuse the whole family. I knew I wanted to see it as soon as I saw the room of pitchforks (the Crusher) popping up all over my IG feed. Selfie opportunities galore got the kids onboard, their curiosities piqued. A Kubrick-inspired set? What is there not to like?
So on this 90 degree day my family and I made the trek to, I am not quite sure where truthfully. (Somewhere between DTLA and Dodger stadium.) I tried not to read about it ahead of time as I like to be surprised. I do recommend reading about the pieces later as you will not find much information there. Note: you CAN bring your DSLRs! And do I recommend you search out some of the artists on the internet after as the experience grows on you. Here are a few visual spoilers (taken with my iPhone.)
One of my favorite rooms was Tannhauser’s “the road back”. Above is a short clip from the room.
